Northwell My Experience onboarding involves more than obtaining a working login. Account access, assigned tasks and clearance to start are separate milestones.
Northwell’s public New Practices at Northwell guide describes a sequence involving requested information, account provisioning, preboarding tasks and confirmation from the preboarding team. That page is written for employees whose practices are transitioning to Northwell. Follow the instructions issued for your own hiring group if they differ.
The practical goal is to know what you have completed, what still needs review and who is responsible for the next action.
Build a record of the instructions you receive
Keep the offer, account message and onboarding instructions together in a secure location you control. Note the contact already assigned to help you, your expected start date and any explicit deadlines.
A small tracking table can prevent an uploaded document from being mistaken for an accepted document.
| Task | Your action | Evidence to retain | Question if unresolved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account setup | Follow the issued instructions | Confirmation or support reference | Has the account been provisioned? |
| Assigned paperwork | Submit through the designated channel | Submission status and date | Is it awaiting review or missing information? |
| Required learning | Complete the assigned activity | Completion status | Has completion been recorded? |
| Pre-hire appointment | Attend as instructed | Appointment confirmation | Is a follow-up required? |
| Start clearance | Await the employer’s confirmation | Written instruction | Am I cleared for the stated start date? |
This is an organizational aid, not a replacement for Northwell’s checklist.
Use documented menu instructions within their scope
For the transitioning-practice group, Northwell documents Me → Journeys for pending preboarding tasks and Me → Learning → Required Learning for assigned compliance learning. Use these as the published instructions for that group, rather than a promise that every employee will see an identical screen. Source: Northwell preboarding guide.
If your account opens but a task is missing, contact the person coordinating your onboarding. State which instruction you received and which item you cannot find. Creating another account or repeatedly restarting unrelated registration steps can leave the underlying assignment question unanswered.
A learning activity that you opened is not necessarily recorded as completed. Check the status the system actually displays and retain the title of any activity requiring follow-up.
Separate submission from review
Consider a simple illustrative situation: you submit a requested item on Monday, but the task still shows as outstanding on Tuesday. The useful question is whether the submission was received and needs review, or whether something else is required.
Sending the same document through several channels can complicate that question. Follow the designated process and ask for clarification against the existing task. If a document contains identity or health information, use only the authorized destination.
The same principle applies to changes in your personal details. A corrected spelling, address or emergency contact should be checked in the relevant record. Do not assume that changing one field automatically updates every separate system involved in onboarding.
Keep payroll setup on its own checklist
Direct deposit setup deserves a separate confirmation because it affects where a payment is sent. Complete it through the official employee service and review the account and allocation details carefully.
The direct deposit guide explains the distinction between a saved bank account and a payment method. Your first paycheck also depends on the assigned payroll cycle and work period; the pay statement guide explains what to compare.
Resolve uncertainty before the start date
If a deadline is approaching, state the date and the unresolved item clearly. For example:
My expected start date is [date]. I completed [task] on [date], but it still appears outstanding. Please confirm whether anything further is required from me.
Do not treat a working login or a mostly completed checklist as permission to start. Rely on the actual clearance and reporting instructions issued for your employment.
